9 hp Elgin model #571-594851 approx. 1968
Hi, I am hoping to restore my Dad's old motor. One of the club members recently had it running and said it ran fine but taking on water in the lower unit and the gas tank has a small leak which we cannot locate . I am hoping someone may have some ideas on where I may locate seals for the lower unit and possibly an impeller. Option would be replacing the lower unit if I can locate a good one. Also need to repair or replace the tank. |

VINTAGE JOHNSON MANUALS
ANTIQUE JOHNSON OUTBOARD MOTOR MANUALS
These are original Canadian factory parts catalogs marked “Canadian Johnson Motor Co. Limited, Peterboro, Canada”, “Canadian Johnson Motor Co. Ltd., Peterboro, Canada”, or “Johnson Motors, Peterboro, Canada”. They are 6 ¾” x 10 ¼” (except #19 which is 6” x 9”), and they show a complete breakdown of the motors including drawings, part numbers, number of parts per motor, code words for parts and prices, as well as information on warranties and ordering parts, and a list of Johnson distributors and “service stations” across Canada at the time. Item #19 is described as a parts “list” rather than a “catalog” and has no code words, drawings or warranty information. As noted, some are dated between 1930 and 1936, and all are soft covered, except items # 10, 12, & 13 which have heavy cardboard covers and # 11 which has a medium weight cover. These books appear to be unused and have obviously seen only careful, casual handling. Their condition suggests the books have had little, if any use over the years. All are very flat and fresh feeling, with no tears on the covers (except #11 as noted) or missing pages. Any marks or stains noted are only on the covers and are very minor: the inside pages are not blemished at all. I have only one of each catalog the price is $40 CDN ($30 USD) for each except #19 “Parts List” which is $32 CDN ($25 USD) and shipping is extra of course. If you want to buy them all, the total price is $600 CDN ($450 USD). I’m in St. Catharines, Ontario, and thanks for looking. |
